The Final Check
You revised your book, nailed down your characters and plot, and fixed its grammar, usage, and spelling. Now you need someone to take a last look to make sure it’s perfect. That’s where proofreading services come in.
What is proofreading?
Proofreading is the last step to make sure a book is ready for readers. It is intended to catch anything that was missed in the previous edits. It mainly focuses on grammar, capitalization, and spelling, but can also be used to make sure everything is consistent.
Proofreading ensures that your book is easy to read and doesn’t cause readers any confusion. Readers appreciate a well-written story without errors, and this final step in the process provides just that.
What’s my process for proofreading?
I go through the manuscript with a fine-tooth come, line by line, to catch any errors overlooked in previous edits. Usually, there are fewer changes and corrections required in this edit.
When I’m done, I’ll send you two copies of the manuscript: one with the changes visible and a clean version with all the changes implemented.
If there isn’t already a style sheet for the manuscript, you’ll also receive a style sheet that lists all the names, terms, and other elements I keep track of to ensure everything is consistent.
